Plasma Structures and Turbulence (PSAT)

Thursday 20 June 2002
Apache Group
03:30-05:30 pm

Convenor: Evgenii Mishin, Contr AFRL/VSBXP

Current speakers include:
Y. Dimant P. Erikson G. Milikh F. Lind
M. Oppenheim J. Retterer A. Streltsov E. Mishin

We plan to discuss observations and theory/modeling of PSAT in the ionosphere focusing on their effects in the momentum and energy transfer in the M-I system. Possible topics of discussion will include (but are not limited to):

  1. Signatures of PSAT in the perturbed ionosphere;

  2. Plasma turbulence effects in the dynamics and energy balance in the magnetosphere-ionosphere system;

  3. Plasma turbulence and structures in storm time subauroral (SAPS/SAR arcs) and equatorial (plasma bubbles) phenomena;

  4. Recent achievements in explaining the formation of ionosphere plasma irregularities.

The invited speakers will present a concise assessment of different aspects of PSAT in the ionosphere (for 75% of the total workshop time), which will be followed by discussion.

Everyone interested in these problems, which may be less familiar to the CEDAR community, are welcome to participate.
