Post-docs in stratospheric dynamics/chemistry at University of Waterloo Canada

Two post-doctoral positions (PDF) are available from May 1, 2007 in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Waterloo. These positions are associated with the Atmospheric Chemistry Experiment (ACE) satellite mission (see http://www.ace.uwaterloo.ca) and are funded by the Canadian Space Agency for at least one year. The main instrument on the ACE satellite is a high resolution Fourier transform spectrometer operating in the 750-4400 cm-1 spectral region. ACE provides height profiles of the concentrations of a large number of atmospheric trace gases as well as the meteorological variables of temperature and pressure. One PDF will work on studies of pyroconvection and its effects on stratospheric ozone and temperature using ACE results and detailed validation of ACE-FTS temperature retrievals using measurements from ground-based, airborne and satellite instruments. This PDF will work be supervised jointly by faculty at the University of Waterloo (Prof. Kaley Walker) and the University of Western Ontario (Prof. Robert Sica). The other PDF will work on developing a method for retrieval of stratospheric winds from ACE-FTS spectra. Salary is commensurate with experience. Applicants should send a cv plus the names of three references to Kaley Walker at: kwalker@acebox.uwaterloo.ca and indicate in their cover letter which project(s) they are interested in working on.
