Space Sciences Faculty Position at University of Washington - due Jan 7

The Department of Earth and Space Sciences at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty member whose research focus is within space science. We are especially interested in scholars with experimental expertise in the design and conduct of in-situ orbital, sub-orbital or ground-based observations associated with solar, planetary atmospheric, magnetospheric, ionospheric or aeronomic physics. The candidate will join two academic and three research professors in the space science group, and will be expected to participate in the development of hardware/experiential learning courses. Opportunities for collaboration exist with many different units on campus, including departments of Physics, Aeronautics and Astronautics, Electrical Engineering, and the Washington NASA Space Grant Consortium. Faculty members are expected to develop their own independent, externally funded research program and participate in departmental research, undergraduate and graduate teaching and independent research, and service.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a related field by the start of the appointment. It is anticipated the position will be filled at the Assistant Professor level. In exceptional circumstances, appointment as Associate or full Professor may be considered for candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to mentoring underrepresented students in the sciences.

Applications should be sent to: Space Sciences Search Committee, c/o Dept. of Earth and Space Sciences, University of Washington, Box 351310, Seattle, WA 98195-1310 and must include a curriculum vitae and list of publications, a statement of research and teaching experience and interests, and three letters of reference (sent directly to the search committee by the referees).

Priority will be given to applications, including recommendations, received by January 7, 2008.

The University of Washington is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer. The University is building a culturally diverse faculty and staff and strongly encourages applications from women, minorities, individuals with disabilities and covered veterans.
