Space Physics Faculty Position at the University of Texas at Arlington - Feb 15

The Physics Department of the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is seeking qualified candidates at the assistant, associate or full professor level for a tenure-track/tenure faculty position in space physics. For senior candidates, appointment at the associate or full professor level would carry tenure. Strong preference will be given to applicants with research interests in magnetosphere-ionosphere physics. A Ph.D. in physics or a related field is required. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in a vigorous research program, have the potential for attracting external funding, supervise Ph.D. and MS students, and have a commitment to quality teaching (both undergraduate and graduate). The target starting date is September 1, 2005.

UTA is a Carnegie I university with more than 25,000 students. Its location in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metropolitan area provides excellent opportunities for collaboration with high-technology industries and neighboring universities, and the cultural benefits of the DFW Metroplex. The UTA Department of Physics has 17 tenured and tenure track faculty members whose research activities include experimental and theoretical condensed-matter physics, experimental high-energy physics, theoretical astrophysics, and theoretical space physics - see http://www.uta.edu/physics/. In Spring 2006, the department will move to the new Physics and Chemistry Building, which is now under construction. This three-story, 123,000 sq ft building will have excellent research and instructional facilities and will also host a new state-of-the art planetarium with a sixty-foot diameter dome - see http://cos.uta.edu/Science_Bldg/SOUTHWEST1.jpg.

Each candidate should forward a letter of application, curriculum vita, bibliography, statement of research and teaching plans, and the names of at least three references to: Dr. R. S. Rubins, Chair, Space Physics Search Committee, Department of Physics, The University of Texas at Arlington, Box 19059, Arlington, Texas 76019. Review of applications will begin February 15, 2005, and will continue until the position is filled. The University of Texas at Arlington is an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer.
