Space physics position at US Geological Survey, Golden, CO - due 13 May
The US Geological Survey (USGS) announces the opening of a position of research geophysicist (GS-1313-12) to work within the Geomagnetism Program of the Central Region Geologic Hazards Team. The Geologic Hazards Team (GHT) conducts research in geophysics, geomagnetism, seismology, engineering seismology, geology, and geomechanics in order to assess geomagnetic hazards, seismic hazards and risk, and ground-failure hazards on regional, national, and international scales. The Geomagnetism Program (http://geomag.usgs.gov) is responsible for the operation of magnetic observatories, the collection and processing of data from these observatories, and the analysis of geomagnetic data for purposes of research and practical application.
Applications are invited from all relevant scientific communities, including geophysics and space-physics. Successful applicants will have a broad knowledge of geomagnetism, geophysics, data analysis, mathematics, statistics, and computers in order to conduct scientific research and to develop operational diagnostic programs pertaining to rapid geomagnetic variations related to magnetic storms. Successful applicants will also have experience in managing either a scientific project or transitioning research projects to operational environments, publishing scientific results in peer-reviewed journals, and communicating scientific results. This is a two-year term position and it comes with an annual salary of $69,845.00/year. The position is located in Golden, Colorado, a suburb of Denver, and situated at the base of the Rocky Mountains.
