Job in Comparative Planetary Science at Univ. of Leicester, UK
Research Associate in Comparative Planetary Science, Department of Physics & Astronomy, University of Leicester, UK. Available from 1 December 2006 until 30 September 2009.
A postdoctoral Research Associate post is available in the Space Research Centre (SRC), part of the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Leicester to support a broadly-based research programme including theory, modelling, and data analysis of various planetary environments. In particular we will use remote observations from the Hubble Space Telescope, Chandra and XMM X-ray observatories, and in situ spacecraft observations where available (eg. Cassini at Saturn). The long term aim is to build a new research area concerning Mercury and its space environment through data and modelling efforts, with a view to exploitation of the data from the Leicester-built instrument MIXS (Mercury Imaging X-ray Spectrometer) which is due to fly on the ESA BepiColombo mission to Mercury. The post is supported by funding from the PPARC until September 2009. Further support has been applied for in the Rolling Grant.
Candidates must have a record of productive research in planetary science, and hold (or expect shortly to hold) a PhD in physics in a relevant research area.
Informal enquiries may be made to Dr E. J. Bunce (e-mail: emma.bunce@ion.le.ac.uk).
