Post-Docs in model GCMs at University College London, UK - due 8 Sep
Two vacancies exist for Post-Doctoral Researchers to work within the Atmospheric Physics Laboratory (http://www.apl.ucl.ac.uk) of the Astrophysics Group (http://www.star.ucl.ac.uk) in the Department of Physics and Astronomy (http://www.phys.ucl.ac.uk) at University College London in the UK.
The Atmospheric Physics Laboratory has a comprehensive programme of research into the physics of the upper atmospheres of planets, including observation and modelling of both terrestrial and planetary atmospheres. This includes a growing programme of work on gas Giant thermospheres, including extrasolar planets, but encompasses also Mars and important questions such as the links between solar variability and climate change for the Earth. The group plays a major role in the UCL-Birkbeck Centre for Planetary Physics and Astrobiology. The group currently has four academics and is in the process of recruiting a new lecturer in Planetary Physics.
Applications are invited from atmospheric physicists, or those in allied disciplines, to strengthen the team working particularly in the group's modelling programme - ideally we would like one person to take on the GCMs (Global Circulation Models) of the terrestrial atmosphere, and the other to take on the planetary GCMs, but a wider remit, including a mix and match of these roles, is also possible depending on the applicants' range of skills. The posts are for 2.5 years in the first instance, renewable depending on the outcome of future grant applications.
The salary will be at the starting end of the PDRA scale (around 25,633 to 27,193 plus 2,472 London Allowance), with some leeway for candidates with commensurate previous experience.
Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Alan Aylward, head of the APL (a.aylward@ucl.ac.uk). Further details are available at: http://www.phys.ucl.ac.uk/people/vacancies/ Application forms can be downloaded from: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/hr/docs/download_forms/job_app.doc Applications, accompanied by a full CV, and contact details of two referees, should be sent to K.Wilson-Heyworth, (k.wilson-heyworth@ucl.ac.uk), Secretary to Group A, Department of Physics and Astronomy, University College London, Gower Street, London WC1E 6BT.
The Closing Date is Sept 8th
