Two Research Associate Positions at University College London - due 16 Apr

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON, Department of Space & Climate Physics, Research Associates (x2)

PDRA to support the Cluster Active Archive

Applicants are invited for a postdoctoral Research Associate position supporting the European Space Agency Cluster Active Archive (CAA), working at the Mullard Space Science Laboratory (University College London) based in Surrey, with data from the PEACE electron spectrometer instruments on the four ESA Cluster magnetospheric research spacecraft. The successful candidate will join a team responsible for all aspects of PEACE operations. The candidate will contribute to instrument in-flight calibration, preparation and validation of electron moments data, and other activities in support of the CAA. A background in space plasma physics (preferably a PhD), and familiarity with any of the following would be an advantage: UNIX, LINUX, PERL, C, IDL, Matlab.

PDRA in the PEACE Operations Team

Applicants are also invited for a postdoctoral Research Associate position in the PEACE Operations Team at the Mullard Space Science Laboratory (University College London), based in Surrey. Six PEACE electron spectrometer instruments (10 sensors) are currently collecting data on the ESA Cluster and CNSA/ESA Double Star magnetospheric research spacecraft. The successful candidate will join a team responsible for all aspects of PEACE operations, from routine commanding through data handling activities and in-flight instrument calibration, to providing accurate electron moments data (density, velocity, temperature). A background in space plasma physics, and familiarity with any of the following would be an advantage: UNIX, LINUX, PERL, C, IDL, Matlab.


Both of the appointments will start as soon as possible, initially for one year. Salary for both posts will start on the 1A scale for research staff in the range of ¢G21,640 - ¢G24,820, depending on experience.
