Physics Department Head
The College of Arts and Sciences at the American university of Sharjah (http://www.aus.edu) invites applications for a physics department Head position, beginning as early as August 19, 2007. The department currently has eight faculty members, offers a minor in physics, provides service courses to the schools of Engineering, Architecture and Design, Business and Management and contributes to the College of Arts and Sciences environmental science program. These sequences serve approximately 1800 students each year.
The department head will teach a reduced load, will maintain a reasonably active research program, and will provide day-to-day management of the department.
The following are expected of the successful applicant: a commitment to excellence in teaching and creative academic productivity; demonstrated leadership and ability to work with faculty, staff, and community constituents; an understanding of the integration of teaching, research, and service in the careers of the faculty members; and experience in the development of the curriculum and of new programs. As a full-time administrator, the department head serves an 11-month term.
Applicants must possess an earned Ph. D. in physics from a North American University and have a current status of Associate or, preferably, Full Professor. Applicants must also have good administrative experience at the department level or above and be well acquainted with the American University system of education and academic management.

Faculty Position
The Department of Physics of the American University of Sharjah invites applications for a full-time faculty position in physics at the Assistant Professor level, beginning as early as August 19, 2007. An appointment at a higher rank may be possible for an exceptionally well-qualified candidate if no suitable candidate is found at the Assistant Professor rank. We seek candidates well acquainted with the American University system of education and with a proven capacity to deliver excellent teaching for a range of undergraduate physics topics, as well as to continue performing research in their areas of specialty.
