2008-2009 Postdoctoral Fellowships in Polar Regions Research - due 11 Jan

The Office of Polar Programs of the National Science Foundation has issued a program solicitation NSF 08-501 for Postdoctoral Fellowships in Polar Regions Research. This program supports training and research for recent doctoral degree recipients in any aspect of scientific study of the Antarctic and/or Arctic within the OPP's scientific areas (see OPP Web site http://www.nsf.gov/dir/index.jsp?org=OPP). The program also provides travel grants to those eligible for fellowships for the purpose of meeting prospective mentors and colleagues, presenting seminars, discussing mutual research and/or education interests, evaluating facilities and professional development opportunities, and initiating collaborative relationships.

Five fellowship awards are anticipated in FY 2008 and FY 2009; up to 10 travel awards are anticipated in FY 2008. The competition has two deadlines in FY 2008 -- 11 January and 18 August. Travel Grant Proposals will be accepted anytime (at least 3 months before the Fellowship deadline is encouraged). No travel proposals will be accepted before the January 2008 Fellowship proposals deadline. The full solicitation is available at the NSF Web site http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2008/nsf08501/nsf08501.htm
