Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) delivers analyses, guidance, forecasts and warnings for weather, ocean, climate, water, land surface, space weather, and related environmental areas to the nation and the world. The Space Environment Center (SEC) is the Nation's official source of space weather alerts and warnings. The Center continually monitors and forecasts Earth's space environment; provides accurate, reliable and useful solar-terrestrial information; and leads programs to improve services. The Director, SEC, has responsibility for the direction of the scientific, technical, and administrative functions of the Space Environment Center. Specifically, the Director must possess knowledge of the observation, analysis and prediction aspects of space weather and their relationship to the larger Space Weather communities' research and service application. In addition to the responsibilities inherent as Director SEC, this position is responsible for the planning functions of NOAA's Space Weather Program within the Weather and Water Goal. As Program Director the current incumbent provides management across NWS, OAR, NESDIS, NOS and the Satellite Programs for the activities related to the Space Weather Program. On greater scale, the incumbent will participate in and provide leadership to interagency and international programs addressing current and future space weather research and services.
