Optical remote sensing jobs at Scientific Solutions in Massachusetts
Founded in 1995, Scientific Solutions Inc. (SSI) is an award-winning optical research and development company with demonstrated expertise in the application of interferometry and spectroscopy to remote sensing. While a small company, we have active research programs in atmospheric science, remote sensing, biomedical optical sensing, laser and interferometer development. Currently we are looking for several colleagues to join our enterprise and help us 'sort light'. Detailed job descriptions follow but the most important qualification is self-motivation, inventiveness and the ability to thrive in a casual collaborative work environment. Our URL is http://www.sci-sol.com
SSI is an EEO/AA employer
Research Scientist 1:
A motivated self starter with experience in observational space physics or atmospheric science to participate in, and eventually lead, efforts in the development of cutting edge optical sensors and instrumentation for government and commercial clients. Initially the successful candidate will work with SSI staff and outside collaborators at the Arecibo Observatory, the Cerro Tololo Observatory and the Millstone Hill Observatory to develop data collection and data analysis software for recently installed instrumentation. In addition she/he is responsible for data analysis and publication at scientific conferences and in leading journals. It is expected that this young scientist will participate in the development of proposals and commercial projects with other SSI staff and eventually manage an independent research program.
Qualifications:
An advanced degree in Physics, Astronomy or Engineering (Optical or Electrical) with a focus on atmospheric or space physics is required. Prior experience in data analysis and optical instrumentation (construction, calibration, observation) is desired, previous work with SHS or FPI a real plus. Excellent analytic and software skills (Fortran, C, IDL, VB, VC++) needed. GUI development experience a plus. Good verbal and written skills, prior publications a must. Travel to the Caribbean and South America is required, as will travel to scientific conferences.
Citizen of, or permanent resident alien in the United States preferred per government contract stipulations.
To apply, the candidate should send a letter describing their research interests and experience, a current resume, and the names of three people willing to write letters of references to: Cheryl Perkins, Scientific Solutions Inc., 55 Middlesex Street, Unit 210, North Chelmsford, MA 01863. For more information, please email John Noto, noto@sci-sol.com
Post-doc(s):
One or more Post-Doc positions in optical remote sensing. Work with us to model, develop and test electro-optical systems to remotely sense the atomic, dynamical and chemical processes in the terrestrial atmosphere and near earth space environment.
Qualifications:
A recent Ph.D. in Physics, Optics, Atmospheric Science, or Electrical Engineering or other related field is required. Knowledge of various optical remote sensing systems (spectral to hyperspectral imagers, spectroscopy and interferometry) as well as the ability to contribute to their design, improvement and operation is required. Experience in optical alignment and test is a plus as is fieldwork experience. Experience reducing, analyzing and deriving geophysical information from optical data (spectra, images, interference patterns) is an advantage. Software development expertise (IDL, VB, VC++, Fortran, C) in a PC environment and familiarity with numerical models of atmospheric chemistry, composition and dynamics is useful.
