Research scientist job at Space Env. Tech. PSSD, Pasadena CA - due 30 Oct
Submitted by W. Kent Tobiska (ktobiska@spacenvironment.net)
The Planetary and Space Science Division of Space Environment Technologies (SET/PSSD) has one position open for work in planetary and space research. The minimum requirement for this position is an accredited Ph.D. degree in the equivalent of Astrophysics or Planetary and Space Science. The SET/PSSD facility is located in Pasadena, CA. The focus of the research program is outer planet atmospheric, ionospheric, and magnetospheric physics. Present activity is concentrated on the results of the Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrograph (UVIS) experiment on the Cassini spacecraft, currently orbiting the Saturn system. The research includes reduction and analysis of UVIS data from atmospheric stellar and solar occultations, and atmospheric/magnetospheric emission measurements in the EUV/FUV. A substantial effort in the SET/PSSD is devoted to investigation and quantification of rate processes for the atomic and molecular species involved in the observations. Current work concentrates on hydrogen, nitrogen, and hydrocarbon physical chemistry. Candidates should have a background in atomic and molecular structure, and experience with spectroscopic observational systems.
The selection process will continue until 15 October 2006. Starting salary will be adjusted for level of experience. Space Environment Technologies is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer committed to the development of a diverse workforce. Women and minority candidates are especially encouraged to apply. Submit CV and 3 letters of reference to D. E. Shemansky (626-351-1592), dshemansky@spacenvironment.net
The closing date is 30 October, 2006.
