20-31 July Polar Aeronomy and Radio Science (PARS) summer school in Fairbanks, Alaska - student/faculty pair applications due 30 May
Apply today for the Polar Aeronomy and Radio Science (PARS) summer school to be held in Alaska July 20 through July 31, 2008. This year's school will be organized around the theme of "The role of the ionosphere in geospace". Lectures will focus on the ionosphere and how it couples to atmosphere and the magnetosphere.
The school brings in about 20 student/faculty pairs to carry out a program of study and experiments relating to the theme of the school. We divide the time between lectures, field trips, and experiments. Each student is responsible for planning and carrying out an experiment using the variety of facilities available in Alaska. Admission to the school is based upon the experiment proposal the students submit with their applications. All costs for the participants will be paid for by the Geophysical Institute with funds from the Air Force Research Lab, the Office of Naval Research, and the National Science Foundation.
The deadline for applications is May 30, 2008. Information about the school can be found at http://www.gi.alaska.edu/PARS, or by contacting Ms. Joanna Meyers (Joanna.Meyers@gi.alaska.edu)
