Postdoc (due 1 Feb) and Summer Faculty (due 1 Dec) in Modeling at NRL, DC

Postdoctoral and Summer Faculty Research Opportunities in High-Altitude Global Modeling at the Naval Research Laboratory

  • postdoc applications open 1 Dec 2006 and close 1 Feb 2007
  • summer faculty research applications close 1 Dec 2006

The Upper Atmospheric Physics Branch of the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, DC, is seeking postdoctoral researchers to contribute to w our program of high-altitude global atmospheric modeling. Postdocs are offered through the National Research Council Cooperative Research Associateship Program in the following general areas, although opportunities for research in a broad range of model and/or data-related areas related to the overarching research goals of the Upper Atmospheric Physics Branch are also possible and can be proposed.

  1. Extension of the Navy's Global Weather Model to ~120 km (see http://nrc58.nas.edu/pgasurvey/data/aobooks/rapbooks.asp?mode=rodetail&roid=36445&progctr=64)
  2. Development of a Global Mountain Wave Forecast Model (see http://nrc58.nas.edu/pgasurvey/data/aobooks/rapbooks.asp?mode=rodetail&roid=36444&progctr=64)
  3. Chemistry, Radiation and Dynamics of the Middle Atmosphere (see http://nrc58.nas.edu/pgasurvey/data/aobooks/rapbooks.asp?mode=rodetail&roid=36422&progctr=64)

Opportunities also exist for university faculty members to participate in research in these or related topics at NRL for up to 10 weeks during summer 2007 through the NAVY-ASEE Summer Faculty Research Program.

More information on the laboratory and our branch's middle and upper atmospheric research activities can be found at the following links: http://uap-www.nrl.navy.mil/dynamics/html/dynamics.html, http://uap-www.nrl.navy.mil/, and http://www.nrl.navy.mil/.
