Space Flight Development Position at Montana State University

Research Associate Position -- Space Science/Space Engineering, MSU The Space Science and Engineering Laboratory (SSEL) at Montana State University at Bozeman invites applications for a Research Associate with primary responsibility for development of space flight hardware in a setting involving undergraduate and graduate students from multiple disciplines. About 75% of the successful candidate's time will entail project management and technical mentoring of student researchers in the design, fabrication, test and flight of small satellites, small satellite subsystems, and in situ instrumentation for measuring the space environment. In the remaining time the researcher will be expected to develop his/her own space instrumentation hardware program, preferably related to space weather and the space environment, under the expectation that the development effort will result in competitive funding leading to flight on high altitude balloons, sounding rockets, or satellites. SSEL is a center of expertise with faculty, staff, and facilities for space research and space technologies. The charter of the laboratory is to engage students and faculty in the science and engineering disciplines to conduct space flight experiments within an interdisciplinary research and student training environment. Montana State University-Bozeman is a land grant university with a total enrollment of over 12,000 students including about 1,000 graduate students. Research funding currently exceeds $85 million per year and has been growing steadily. The Bozeman community has a population of 35,000 people, is situated in the Gallatin Valley, 90 miles north of Yellowstone National Park, and offers superb recreational opportunities, an excellent K-12 education system and numerous cultural activities.
