Middle Atmosphere professorship at MISU, Stockholm, SE - due 16 June

From: Jorg Gumbel (gumbel@misu.su.se)

An Assistant Professor position is available at the Department of Meteorology, Stockholm University (MISU). The position is in Atmospheric Physics with emphasis on Middle Atmosphere Dynamics. The appointment is normally made for a period of four years. This is not a tenure track position. Application deadline is June 16, 2008

The research area comprises the dynamics of the stratosphere and mesosphere, i.e. the altitude range 10-100 km. Focus is on the modelling of dynamic processes in this altitude range. This includes transport and coupling mechanisms from small to global scales. Of particular interest is collaboration with experimental activities in the middle atmosphere, especially global satellite studies.

Research on the middle atmosphere is today conducted by the Department's Atmospheric Physics group, utilising satellites, local measurements and theoretical studies. Focus is on the interaction between dynamical, chemical and microphysical processes in the mesosphere and stratosphere. The successful applicant is expected to become an active member of the group and to further develop the group's established strengths.

The position is focused on research and to some extent teaching. Anyone who has completed a doctorate or has a foreign degree that is considered to be the equivalent of a doctorate qualifies for employment as a research assistant. The doctorate must be completed by the application deadline. Applicants who have completed their degree no more than five years prior to the application deadline will be given priority.
