Canadian Research Chair (CRC) at the University of Saskatchewan - due asap

An unexpected opportunity has developed at the University for a Tier 2 Chair: typically academics or scientists at the Associate Professor level or equivalent, and described by the CRC web-site as "rising stars".

The area is Atmospheric Sciences-Meteorology. The Chair would powerfully complement the programs of several existing CRC Chairs on campus, who were chosen for the Theme of Environmental Sciences e.g. in geography-hydrology and geological sciences. A strong focus within that Theme is Climate Change; at this stage, mainly its effects. The person selected should have broad professional training and expertise in Meteorology-Atmospheric Science (PhD level): dynamical and physical meteorology; aerosols and clouds; atmospheric processes of climate change; modelling [personal or collaborative with existing models]; tropospheric-surface science.

Research will be multi disciplinary and complementary with several Departments in the College of Arts and Science (geological sciences, biology, geography, Institute of Space and Atmospheric Studies [ISAS]) and Agriculture (plant and soil sciences). There is no meteorology department on Campus, but there are 3 atmospheric scientists in ISAS. Systems studied in those departments are sensitive to or carry imprints of Climate Change processes. The new chair will provide the atmospheric dimension to these studies on Campus, working towards establishing causes of change, and be a charismatic teacher and leader. E.g. providing a high profile 2nd year course "Atmospheric Processes of Climate Change" for students in A&S, Agriculture and Engineering.

The new Chair's research should also be synergistic with the Canadian Space Agency 'Atmospheric Environment' programs: satellites/programs being CloudSat, Chinook, and the developing mission (APOCC-Atmospheric Processes of Climate Change). The successful candidate could well be located within any of the above departments or ISAS. However the person must hold formal relationships with the other departments. Membership (research) within ISAS would also be offered.

Interested persons should contact the ISAS Chair Alan Manson (alan.manson@usask.ca) promptly, indeed urgently, with a "Letter of Intent" (e-mail, with phone-calls to follow). See also http://www.chairs.gc.ca and http://www.usask.ca/physics/isas

This would be followed with a CV, a brief summary (2 pages) of their Research interests, a brief Research Proposal (1 page), and the names of 3 referees.
