Research Associate Position at Imperial College London - due 14 Dec

A research associate position is available within the Space and Atmospheric Physics Group at Imperial College London. The work involves the analysis and interpretation of space plasma data, including magnetic field measurements taken by Imperial magnetometers currently operating on several spacecraft and in situ particle data for which the group undertakes significant roles. Supporting theoretical and modelling work is also required. The main areas of interest within the group relevant to these posts include the Earth's outer magnetosphere and bow shock together with turbulence and related phenomena in interplanetary space. Cross disciplinary work taking advantage of the Group's activities in planetary magnetospheres, solar wind-cometary interactions, and magnetic field measurements at and near other planets would be possible. The work will exploit the Group's involvement in current space missions, notably Cluster, with additional data being drawn from the Double Star, Venus Express, Ulysses, Themis, Stereo, and Cassini missions.

You should have a PhD in space or magnetospheric physics or a closely-related area, with experience in at least one, and preferably two or more, of: space/magnetospheric physics; time series data analysis; theoretical/modelling research; and computational physics.

The Salary will be in the range £24,570 - £35,800 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. The post is available for two years in the first instance with a possibility of extension, subject to funding.

A job description and an application form can be obtained from http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/employment/research/ns2007231nt

Alternatively, please contact Ms Bianca Thurston, Email: space.sec@imperial.ac.uk Completed application forms including a CV, list of publications and the names of two referees should be sent to Ms Bianca Thurston, Space and Atmospheric Physics Group, Blackett Laboratory, Prince Consort Road, Imperial College London, SW7 2AZ, UK.

Closing Date: 14 December 2007 Valuing diversity and committed to equality of opportunity
