Postdoc at the Finnish Meteorologcial Institute, Helsinki, Finland - due 1 Feb

The Space Research Division of the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) invites applications for a post-doctoral position. The successful candidate will be expected to work in the field of large-scale magnetospheric dynamics, with a particular focus on using global MHD simulations either as an independent research tool or as giving a large-scale context for observational analyses.

The team offering the job consists of researchers, graduate and undergraduate students both at the University of Helsinki and at FMI. The team is actively working on solar wind - magnetosphere coupling processes and energetics especially during magnetic storms, large-scale consequences of reconnection, global MHD simulations and empirical models of magnetospheric dynamics, and magnetosphere - ionosphere coupling processes.

Applicants should have a PhD in space physics, astrophysics or related fields. The position is funded by a grant from the Academy of Finland and will be filled initially for one year with a possibility for extension for a second year. The salary will be based on the qualifications of the applicant according to the FMI salary scale. Applications should be sent before 1 February 2007. The decision will be taken in February and the work can commence any time after the decision is made.
