Job in Experimental Space Physics at Boston University
The Center for Space Physics (CSP) at Boston University invites applications for a Research Associate position in Experimental Space Physics. The successful applicant will join a group of researchers engaged in several ongoing and in-development experimental studies of physical processes in Earth's magnetosphere and of cosmic rays. These include: (1) studies of charged particle processes in geospace using ISTP data, especially observations from the ongoing POLAR CEPPAD experiment; (2) development of a cosmic ray sensor for the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter mission, and associated studies of galactic cosmic ray variability and solar energetic proton events; (3) participation in the development of energetic charged particle instrumentation for the Magnetospheric Multiscale mission, and associated studies of magnetic reconnection, particle acceleration, and turbulence; and finally, (4) development of the recently-selected, charged particle instrument suite for the Radiation Belt Storm Probe mission, and related studies of inner magnetospheric physics.
CSP researchers engage in a wide variety of research including: heliospheric and solar physics; magnetospheric physics; ionospheric physics; upper atmospheric physics; and planetary and cometary studies. The CSP includes 18 research and teaching faculty, 28 research associates and support staff, and over thirty graduate students. For more information on the Center, please visit: http://www.bu.edu/csp.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in space physics or a related field, with experience in experimental spaceflight hardware development. The position is available immediately. Salary depends on the candidate's background and experience. To apply, the candidate should send a letter describing their interests and plans, a current CV, and the names of three people willing to write letters of references to: Harlan Spence, CSP, 725 Commonwealth Ave., Boston, MA, 02215. For more information, send email to spence@bu.edu or visit: http://www.bu.edu/dbin/csp/people.php?id=23.
