Middle Atmosphere/Microwave Scientist Position at BAS, UK - due 24 Mar
Please see the webpages at: http://www.antarctica.ac.uk/employment/vacancies/job.php?JobID=311 for details about a position at the British Antarctic Survey, Cambridge, UK, as a Middle atmosphere/Microwave scientist.
BAS with international partners has made a significant investment in instrumentation to explore the chemistry and dynamics of the Antarctic middle atmosphere (30-80 km). It is now seeking an experienced scientist in this field to lead the work. The main focus of activity is the exploitation of a microwave radiometer instrument, with particular emphasis on the chemistry and dynamics associated with energetic particle precipitation. Candidates are expected to have proven experience in middle atmosphere research, with a track record of publications in peer reviewed journals. Experience in the operation of spectroscopic instrumentation in the microwave or sub-mm region of the spectrum, and the ability to perform inversion techniques for processing the data would be a distinct advantage.
The successful candidate holds a PhD (or equivalent) in Physics or a closely related discipline. Ideally, some experience of optical or pseudo-optical systems is sought and some experience in atmospheric modelling is also desirable. He or she is expected to have demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and to develop international research collaborations.
