Microwave Radiometer Engineer, Over-Wintering in Antarctica - due 15 May

The British Antarctic Survey is a government-funded organization undertaking a world-class program of scientific research in Antarctica. We address key global and regional issues through scientific research, survey and monitoring and are now looking for a committed professional to join our Physical Sciences division as a Microwave Radiometer engineer.

Working on a Norwegian base in Antarctica (Troll), you will be responsible for commissioning, installing and operating our Microwave Radiometer to enable us to test the effects of solar activity on middle atmospheric composition. You will also participate in the analysis of the data the instrument receives.

This unique role demands a range of abilities. Excellent technical skills are essential - you will need a good knowledge of scientific equipment, high-frequency electronics and microwave technology. You should have a first degree in Engineering, Physics or a closely related area. It is also important that you are highly resourceful, have a good English language skills and work well in a team.

Salary will be in the range of #16,514 to #23,548 per annum. In addition an allowance of #2,222 per annum pro-rata is payable for periods of Antarctic service.
