Physics Faculty Position at the American Univ of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates

American University of Sharjah, a not-for-profit, independent, coeducational institution of higher education formed on the American model, invites outstanding professionals to join its expanding team. The four academic units of AUS offer degrees in more than 21 undergraduate majors, and graduate certificates and master's degree programs in several disciplines. The AUS aims to become the premier higher educational institution in the Gulf region.
American University of Sharjah is licensed in the United States by the Department of Education of the State of Delaware. It is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104, 215 662 5606). AUS is also licensed by the Ministry of Education of the UAE, and all undergraduate and graduate programs are recognized by the ministry and have been awarded either accreditation or accreditation-eligible status.
The Department of Physics seeks candidates to fill a Faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, starting in August 2006. Candidates from all areas of physics will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with an excellent record of research and teaching and a dedication to utilizing relevant new technologies in classroom and laboratory teaching and who can also contribute to the environmental science program.
Initial contracts are normally for a period of three years and are renewable. Rank will be determined by previous employment history. Faculty at AUS receive competitive pay and an attractive benefits package. There is no income tax in the United Arab Emirates.

We will acknowledge the receipt of all applications but only those who are short-listed will be subsequently contacted. Short-lists will be prepared by departmental committees and interviews will be held in various sites starting in November. Preference will be given to applicants who have some North American experience. Faculty who are appointed starting with the spring 2006 semester must be in Sharjah by January 14, 2006 and those appointed starting with the fall 2006 semester must be in Sharjah by August 20, 2006.
Appointments will generally be made at the rank of assistant professor but appointment at higher ranks will be considered for applicants with appropriate qualifications and experience. A PhD is required for all positions unless otherwise indicated.
