Postdoc in Space Physics at Augsburg College, Minneapolis, MN -due 1 Apr
A postdoctoral research associate position will be available beginning approximately June 1, 2006 in the Space Physics Research Group at Augsburg College. The primary task will be to contribute to the analysis and management of ultra-low-frequency (ULF) wave data from an array of induction magnetometers to be installed in Svalbard, Norway during summer 2006. Closely related duties involve analysis of data from other instruments located on Svalbard and from overflights of spacecraft such as FAST, Polar, Cluster II, and ST5, as well as physical modeling of the processes under study.
The candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in Physics, Astrophysics, or a related field, and experience in space physics or a related field. Successful candidates will have demonstrated skill and experience in scientific programming, preferably in IDL, and will be expected to develop software and archiving tools for use with this new data set. This position will be based at Augsburg, but will involve close contact with colleagues at the University of New Hampshire and the University of Oslo (Norway). Interaction with space physicists at the nearby University of Minnesota will also be encouraged.
Salary and benefits are competitive. The initial appointment will be for one year, but is renewable for up to a total of two and one third years, contingent on performance and the availability of research funding.
