Description
A new imaging Fabry-Perot interferometer has been installed at Millstone Hill, in support of the Millstone incoherent scatter radar. The instrument provides the capability to make sensitive new neutral wind and temperature measurements in the mid-latitude thermosphere, in conjunction with the incoherent scatter radar observations and in conjunction with all-sky imaging. This instrument combination, coupled with Fabry-Perot observations from Colorado, provides a new opportunity to study the thermosphere-ionosphere interaction at mid-latitude. In addition, the COSMIC satellite radio occultation data provides a global view of the ionosphere for a better understanding of longitudinal structures probably related to planetary waves, and to non-migrating tides. This workshop discusses recent results from these new observations, and plans future joint efforts.
